What is the best way to preserve very old pressed flowers?

Some time ago I purchased a bible at a flea market. It was given to an 8-year-old girl in 1910 and inside I recently discovered 12 four-leaf clovers. Nine of them have remained in tack. The other three have broken apart and the leaves have shredded. How can I preserve them remaining?

My father and grandfather used to put four-cleaf clovers on a piece of wood with an Irish good luck saying and varnish over the entire thing. The four-leaf clovers remained a vibrant green.

I don't think this will work since the pedals are already so delicate. I would like to lay them on a piece of paper with the information about them but I don't know if having them against the glass will further deteriorate them or if maybe a piece of vellum against the glass is the way to go.

Please help, I truly believe things like these should be treasured. Thank you!

How about trying 2 sheets of very thin acrylic. Or cellophane, you could buy that in stationery shop.
Reply:Maybe you could use a spray varnish on the remaining four leaf clover, if there is such a thing, then purchase a laminating kit (Wal * Mart) %26amp; seal them inside. The kits come in many sizes %26amp; you could insert the info inside as well. I agree with you, such things should be treasured always!!! :)

**I like artgal12's advice too**
Reply:You could try placing them between two plates of plexiglass then seal the edges with something that will create an air tight seal.
Reply:Mama always pressed them between waxed paper in the Family Bible. Seems like she pressed the petals flat with a warm iron, I guess to put the wax on them, you could try something else and attemp clear spray varnish on velum maybe just to see if it would work. mabe you could melt wax and pour it over them or the gel stuff you make candles out of. That might be a good idea! put it in a glass and pour the gel candle stuff around it; you would have it suspended and keep it pretty at the same time. Good luck and let me know what works. You can email me. okay
