Okay Im new at planting flowers and such. last week i went and got some tulips. I planted a few in the sun and a few on the side of the house that gets partial sun. The ones in the sun seem like they are dying. Are they getting too much sun? The paper that came in the plants said SUN. what are some other types of flowers that are good for the sun?
Tulips in sun?
Hmmm... You planted tulips from bulbs or already started bulbs? Tulips like sun. ;o) Usually bulbs are planted in tha fall and bloom the following spring. If they were older bulbs that sat on a sheli n a store, they probably missed the chill phase and just won't grow. They require being chilled first so if you plant them in spring, you stick them in your refrigerator for at least a month first.
That question is very hard to answer because almost all flowers thrive in sun. What zone are you growing in?
Get a gardening book for your area, as we all have different zones, and plant different things depending on where we live!
Reply:I agree with Jane, tulips are like sun and perfectly grow on it. I'm living in Southern part of Ukraine so we got a lot of sunny days and hot summer and warm spring and tulips never had problems with sun or watering, but we also planted bulbs in autumn.
If you planted tulips now most probably you've got already grown and blossoming? If so I strongly advice cutting flower head as it consume a lot of plant's energy and after blooming it may actually die.
Simply cut flowers and leave leafs until they become dry, this way your bulbs become stronger and bloom next year.
Good luck!
