Interpretation of this song by Regina spektor?

is Regina really talking about a flower in this song

The flowers you gave me are rotting and still I refuse to throw them away.

Some of the bulbs never opened quite fully

They might so i'm waiting and staying awake.

Things I have loved i'm allowed to keep

I'll never know if I go to sleep.

The papers around me are piling and twisting regina the paper back mummy

What then.

I'm taking the knife to the books that I own and chopping and chopping and boiling soup from stone.

Things I have loved i'm allowed to keep.

I'll never know if I go to sleep.

Things I have loved i'm allowed to keep.

I'll never know if I go to sleep.

Interpretation of this song by Regina spektor?
To me it seems like she's hoping for some indication that her significant other still loves her.

flowers rotting = love or hope dying

refuse to throw them away = not giving up on the relationship yet

waiting and staying awake = looking for a sign

refrain = she doesn't have to give up on love, and if she stops looking for it, she might miss the proof

papers piling = time passing (newspapers piling up)

mummy = emotionally dead

knife to the books = not doing what conventional wisdom says (which is that she should leave if she isn't feeling loved)

soup from stone = trying to make a relationship when she's getting no love (like "blood from a turnip")

Restated:

By all appearances, her partner doesn't love her anymore, although he/she once did

She's refusing to give up on the relationship, and doesn't have to, even though everything she's read says she should

She's waiting and straining to get the partner to show her love, but it's been a long time and she's beginning to feel empty, dead to love

Still, she's afraid to give up because her partner may change/make an effort/realize what's at stake and they'll be able to be in love again

And she doesn't know what will happen if the response never comes

Does that sound right?

get well flower
