Lyrical interpretation?

Hello, everyone... My assignment is to right an analysis of a song. Although I have an idea of what this song means, I'd like to know your interpretation as well? The more ideas I get, the better my paper will be. I know that music is a lot like poetry and is subjective. Thank you all in advance! Here is the song:

Artist: Sting

Album: The Very Best Of Sting %26amp; The Police

Title: Desert Rose

(Chorus)

I dream of fire

Those dreams that tie two hearts that will never die

And near the flames

The shadows play in the shape of the man's desire

This desert rose

Whose shadow bears the secret promise

This desert flower

No sweet perfume that would torture you more than this

And now she turns

This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams

This fire burns

I realize that nothing's as it seems

(Chorus)

I dream of rain

I lift my gaze to empty skies above

I close my eyes

The rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of love

(Chorus)

Sweet desert Rose

Lyrical interpretation?
First verse:

he is dreaming of love and lust

Chorus

the woman is probably of nomdic/arabic/egyptian descent (desert rose).

the secret promise is the promise of sensual pleasures if he wins her heart.

the attraction is stronger than any perfume

second:

now she reveals her true self

she invades all her dreams

he is burning with lust for her

but she's nothing like what he imagined

third:

the rain (truth) puts the fire (his desires) out

but he doesn't see the source of the rain (empty skies)

he ignores it, denies the truth

and loses himself in his love-drunk state

he still loves her even though she's not as perfect/innocent/pure as he dreamed.
Reply:the song is about passion and wanting a love that you cannot have and being tortured every time you see that person, not being able to get that person out of your head because that person is in your dreams

and i guess sting cant be with this girl because shes married or well just unavailable
Reply:Okay, not being mean here, but don't you mean your assignment is to WRITE an analysis? There's a difference between write and right.
